Attending Church Makes you Happy!??!?!

I found this article on the evil corporate website of MSN.com They were dicussing happiness of places people live. Thought it was interesting enough to share...makes me more motivated to not sleep in on Sundays and actually get to a service! Website for full article is at the bottom.

A Reason to Believe

Americans are one of the most religious people in the western world. And with good reason. In the United States, attending religious services at least once a week is a strong predictor of happiness.
A 2006 report by the Pew Research Center found that 43 percent of people who attend church at least once a week reported being “very happy” while only 26 percent of those who attend “seldom or never” said the same.
It doesn’t matter which faith you profess. The key is regular attendance.
Why should being religious bring us so much happiness?
“Religious communities provide people with opportunities to support others in need,” says Harold G. Koenig, M.D. professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University. “Contributing to the lives of others provides a deep sense of happiness and joy. If you can relieve someone’s pain or provide for some of their basic needs, it fills you with a feeling that’s hard to replicate.”
In addition, just about every major religion encourages us to take good care of our bodies. For instance, religious people are less likely to drink heavily or smoke, say Koenig.
As a result, religious people are healthier, and health is one of the biggest predictors of happiness.

Any chance you'd be willing to swing by the Reno Airport in the afternoon and give a fellow burner a ride?

I'll arrive by 3pm and it'll be only me and my carry-on. I'll chip in for gas and even drive you in to Burning Man if you'd like - I'm pretty experienced at it. I'm set for a camp & the ride home, so this is only for the ride in.

Washington Times as well as a regular playa-ite and Burning Man participant.

I am interested in doing a photo-heavy feature story for the Times that
would basically focus on religion within the context of Burning Man--
how more 'traditional' religion is received at an event that has been
described as a gathering place for those embracing alternative forms of
spirituality.

In that vein, I am looking to talk with individuals or groups who openly

EXAMINING THE BIBLICAL EVIDENCE THAT GEORGE BUSH IS THE ANTICHRIST

Part 1 of 3

Regarding “The End of Time” the Bible states:
"There will be signs in the heavens" (sky), which likely relates to the vast number of saucer sightings since the 1st atomic test … also that
"There will be signs on earth" ... which likely relates to the many complex geometrical crop circles.
The Bible also makes reference to the rebirth of the State of Israel as a sign of the end, saying "The fig tree will put forth its branch" (Luke 21:29), and also that "One head of the beast came back to life from the dead" … again presumably The State of Israel … an integral part of the Roman Empire ... referred to in the Bible as "The Beast" … (actually “monster” in original tongue).

Also the prophesy of "Wormwood" -(in Rev. 8:11) the word Wormwood is "Chernobyl" in Russian … and that a Nuclear Facility could be depicted as a Fallen Star in metaphorical language (parables), being that stars are radioactive bodies as are reactors. Wormwood is an ancient medicinal herb (Artemisia Absinthium) which has been used for thousands of years to kill internal parasites and to make a liquor called Absinth.

I suggested that perhaps it is possible that the world is much farther ahead in prophesy (1000 yrs.) than people are willing to accept having been conditioned and pre-programmed by intense institutional doctrine. They say that Anti-Christ must first set up his/her/it's throne in Jerusalem. And the antichrist identity be revealed before Christ appears. The Bible states that a thousand years is a day and a day is a thousand years, so “The Day of The Lord” may be a metaphorical term relating to a time which is not measured. Also the dead do not live for a thousand years but come back to live to be judged when it is over. Therefore who can measure this time which is a metaphor and or enigma?

I pointed out that Revelation speaks of a “new heaven” and a “new earth” ... and a "New JerUSAlem" ...Since it’s discovery America has been referred to as “The New World” !
A land which pursues the exploration of space (the “New Heaven”).

And doesn’t it fit the description of the "Promised Land" at least as well as
Palestine (America being the worlds #1 producer of Milk ... it is said that the Biblical Promised Land "flows with milk.
America was the “Land of Promise” ... because it offered religious freedom to so many persecuted groups in Europe ... they came here to "The Promised Land" that’s how Caucasians got here.

So wouldn’t then the "New JerUSAlem" be the power center of the New World (Washington DC) ? And wouldn’t this New JerUSAlem be the place where the antichrist sets up his/her/it’s throne ?
Revelation speaks of the New World having 12 gates, possibly 12 sea ports, which stretch from the Great Lakes to Seattle WA.

I was asked "If this is true then what about the bible
script which says that Christ will come on his white horse with all the armies of heaven and slay the wicked, and every eye will see him"
I slept on this and thought well, One bible prophesy was fulfilled in the days of the crusades when the Christians took back Jerusalem, Revelation 14:20 says "The blood will run as high as the horses bridal". This event became documented history when forces led by the Knights Templar slaughtered Moslems to an extent which caused their horses to wade through rivers of blood 3 feet deep.
I am not suggesting that Moslems are evil either, only acknowledging the reality that they and Christians have been adversaries to each other since their origins, battling over control of Jerusalem.
To Christians Moslems are antichrist to Moslems Christians are the infidels. Actually to historians they are "half-brothers" locked in a sibling rivalry.

George Bush “THE IMAGE OF THE BEAST” ?
In the Bible it becomes clear that the "Image of the beast" is "the evil one",
the "False Prophet" (Pope) and "The Beast" take second lead.
In Genesis it states that God made his sons in his "image" ... (like father like son). Therefore should we ask ... could the "image" of the beast be someone’s son ... made in the image of their father (like father like son)?

Wrestling with choices

Are we all wrestling with the same choices here?

Is it acceptable to look for our Lord on the Playa if we do so through the lens of peyote or mescaline?

Is it moral to have Burning Man be the one time of year we yield to the needs of the body? Is it somehow offensive to the Lord if I share intimacy with a lithe young blonde, praying with her sweet young body bent across the hood of my car?

CHristian is such a rich complex word and a very broad tradition. So I am interested to hear what part of the tradition you are closest to.

I grew up Nazarene and am now Catholic.

I expect alot of you might be non-denominational? Tell me a little about your church services and practices? how long have you been a Christian etc...

I didnt make it to the playa this year. Maybe next.

hey guys. Jesus rawks!! ya He does!! i hear there is a christian camp at burning man called something like The Spirit Dream Interpretation Cafe, and i believe they are camped at 9:00 and catharsis (did you notice that the streets are alphabetical from the esplanade? a,b,c,d,...). there will be free coffee, and they are handing out something like $25,000 worth of free bottles of water (all donated by a guy in reno who owns a bunch of markets or something), and i guess a group is trained to interpret dreams...possibly some hebrew training or something, im not sure. but i hear its so powerful that many burners leave crying. definitely worth a visit, ya?

so i wonder if all of you will be going this year...if anyone wants to meetup for a bit of prayer or fellowship or something out there, that would be way cool, send me a message. also, ill register at playa info as "Snook (Fresh)". im really looking forward to thinking, worshiping, and praying to God out there this year. i did a lil bit of that last year and it was just truly amazing. hopefully ill do more this year.

God is so awesome and i give all my praise and glory to Him. much love and blessings to you all....
